We love hearing your Signing Stories, and we also love sharing them! This week we are sharing a story that doesn’t necessarily have to do with a child signing, but it’s still a great way to show how teaching your child ASL can help in other ways. A follower, Bill, wrote to us about his Grandson Seamus who is generally nonverbal and physically not able to sign, but this story about what happened warmed our hearts!
“My Grandson, almost 7 yo, has CP. When he was about 1 yo, I would sit at the computer with him and we found this page. Recently and finally, he has gotten an eye-gaze reader. The other night his Aunt was reading some stories with him on the reader. When it was time for her to leave, she said “I love you”. He looked on the reader but couldn’t find “I love you” but he did find AIRPLANE. It took her until the next morning to figure out why he said airplane but realized it was close enough!!!”
You see, the sign for Airplane, uses the ‘I Love You’ hand shape! Isn’t that sweet? We are so happy to hear things like this, and that even in small ways, ASL can help with non verbal hearing children of all ages!
Thank you, Bill for sharing! If you have a Signing Story, we’d love to hear it. You could also be featured on our blog!
This week we’d thought we would do a little ‘Throw Back Thursday’ for you. It’s been 8 years since we posted this video, where has the time gone? Fireese is all grown up, and this video has been viewed by over 4.5MILLION people! If you haven’t seen it already, we hope you enjoy it!
We are excited to announce that we have come out with a great animated dictionary of ASL words for you and your little one to learn ASL in a fun and interactive way!
Children will enjoy learning their ABCs with our fun learn the alphabet feature. You can select your keyboard from qwerty or abcde versions. You can select a letter from the keyboard to learn your letters or swipe through them all. You can also select the ‘song’ to watch and sing along to the fun ABC song.
Finally, the app also has a fun quiz/game feature for your little one to test his or her ASL knowledge! You can set it as easy or as difficult as you like. You can select certain categories or have it draw on the whole list of words.
You can find our Baby Signing Animated Words app in the App store, HERE. Below are some examples of what you’ll find! We hope you check it out and love it as much as we do!
In celebration of his new book “Kid President’s Guide to Being Awesome” Kid President asked us to make up a new ‘awesome’ handshake using sign language. He has a section in his new book, “Kid President’s Guide To Being Awesome” on making up a new handshake. We accepted his challenge and the kids came up with an AWESOME new handshake. Be sure to check it out and see if you can learn how to do it too!
We love this so much, we had to share it on our blog! Check out this Kindergarden class signing and singing along to two My Smart Hands Songs: Colours, and our ABC Song! They are all so cute, and do such a great job!
